Planned Parenthood Ottawa (PPO)’s ability to work with placement students varies because PPO operates using a relatively small staff team. In the past we have worked with social service worker students, sociology students, social work students, and child and youth worker students.
Before applying to be a placement student, please look through our website and become familiar with the programs we are currently offering. Placement students can apply to work closely with a current staff member to support a current program. In the past, this has looked like working with the education coordinator to facilitate workshops in the community, or working with the options coordinator to support the counselling program at PPO.
Another option is to propose a specific topic of study that the student wants to work on with support from Planned Parenthood Ottawa staff. In the past this has included researching and developing materials for specific populations, such as people with disabilities, Indigenous people, newcomers and immigrants etc.
Please feel free to call the office for more details about PPO’s work with placement students.
When applying to be a placement student at PPO, please send a cover letter and a resume to the executive director at firstname.lastname@example.org. In your cover letter be sure to include why you want to be a placement student with PPO, and how you see yourself fitting with PPO’s values. If you are hoping to placed within a program that is currently running, please also include the program coordinator in your email.
