World AIDS Day, 2010

World AIDS Day 2010
By: Anastasia Marie Szakowski

Treatment for HIV/AIDS is non-accessible in many communities and HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s most significant health concerns. According to the World Health Organization, 33.4 million people live with HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day (WAD) has worked to raise global awareness about HIV/AIDS by honouring those who have been affected and by helping to inspire positive action. As an organization that promotes safer sex and education, Planned Parenthood Ottawa will be participating in the World AIDS Day events in Ottawa on December 1st, 2010.

We will be joining the AIDS Committee of Ottawa (ACO) in their initiative. PPO staff and volunteers will be handing out red ribbons to passersby in many areas of downtown Ottawa order to help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to foster community support in fighting the stigma that surrounds it. In addition, PPO’s Insight Theatre program will be participating in a flash mob, organized by the folks at Youth Services Bureau.  Wear a red ribbon, donate to PPO, or join us on December 1st!
