Once again PPO helped bring some feminist fun to International Women’s Day! For the 5th year, PPO participated in organizing an IWD event to discuss the value of feminism and the work still needing to be done, and to celebrate achievements for women’s rights right here in Ottawa!
PPO staff and volunteers enjoyed a night of superhero fun at this year’s International Women’s Day event: FEMICON! With a film about feminist superpowers, an inspiring performance by the Raging Grannies, and an evening of dancing and nibbles, it was a great way to be celebrating International Women’s Day in the nation’s capital!
The best part? We were able to celebrate Luna and the Insight Theatre troupe as they were awarded a Femmy Award in recognition of their work with this year’s Feminist History Walking Tour, a Girls Action Foundation 2013 Day of Action Event! Congratulations to Luna and the troupe for representing PPO so strongly and prominently in the community!
Many thanks to those who participated and to our friends on organizing committee from Amnesty International Canada, Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Canadian Federation of University Women, Inter Pares, MATCH International, Nobel Women’s Initiative, OCTEVAW, Oxfam, WUSC, and LEAF.
