PPO has been hard at work creating new funding opportunities for our Community Education program. As many of you may have heard, Planned Parenthood Ottawa’s Community Education (lovingly dubbed “CommEd”), which offers workshops and information tables on a variety of topics dealing with healthy sexuality to schools and community groups, no longer has funding. This is a $60,000 loss for the organization, representing nearly a quarter of our budget. It’s an important program, and one that has reached a lot of people over its thirty-seven-and-counting years.
We’ve been really touched by the response from the community. So far, we’ve raised almost $3,000 with the campaign via email and through Canada Helps online donations. Thank you to everyone who has donated! We are nearly half way to our direct mail fundraising goal for 2012, reaching this target will take care of 10% of our total need. These contributions help us to continue to deliver evidence-informed and non-judgmental sex education across Ottawa, to the community’s diverse populations. It’s not too late to give a one-time donation or become a monthly donor.
**A huge thanks to all our volunteers who showed up for the envelope stuffing party (even though Barbara’s terrible 90s music did not live up to the hype.) Both our boardroom and kitchen are now clear of stacks of paper!
